People who have lived in Hawaii for their whole lives have never heard of this secret hike along the Hanauma Bay Ridge. I had personally been to Hanauma Bay six times and had never heard anyone talk about it nor saw anyone up there. I stumbled upon this hike when a coworker of mine mentioned he saw people walking along the ridge above Hanauma Bay the last time he went snorkeling there, and after a lot of searching, I found mention of it on an obscure blog. Well, here it is for all to see. It’s a great moderate length hike which everyone should do to complete the Hanauma Bay experience.

It can be accessed from the back of the parking lot, just follow the stairs up to the road, and hop over the short fence right by the bus stop. Although it does say no trespassing, along the way we bumped into a van with government plates and he just waved and smiled, so seems like they aren’t too strict about it. We also saw about 10 other people doing the ridge hike that day.
The views from all around the ridge are amazing, especially towards the end of the hike when you come upon an unexpected landscape that almost looks like a different planet. Just see the pictures to see what I’m talking about. It’s these kind of discoveries that make hiking remote locations worth it. Hope you enjoy the hike and if you go, let us know what you think!
