The word “tantalizing” comes to mind when describing the famed road called Tantalus Drive that scales the hills above Honolulu.  Prepare yourself for some of the most spectacular views of the city, as you traverse through the mountains and the only jungle within mere minutes of downtown.

Like exploring outside the city?  Then you’ll love these activities too!

Overview:

  • Thrilling drive minutes from Waikiki
  • Incredible views, day or night
  • Public park and hiking trails at the top
  • Getting there

  • Tantalus Dr. view from the top

A camera is a must-have on this scenic drive, as there are tons of good opportunities to capture both the lush natural beauty of the rainforest and vistas of the entire south shore of Oahu, including: Diamond Head, Waikiki, Punchbowl National Cemetary, and even Ewa Beach on a clear day.

The entire loop is about 10 [slow] miles, but allow at least an hour to take advantage of all that this drive has to offer.  For the athletic and adventurous, this could even be a good and strenuous half day mountain bike trek. This hidden gem of a drive is definitely a “two thumbs up” and not-to-be-missed, both from a scenic standpoint and close proximity to Honolulu.
